What is Mahila Samman Bachat Patra Yojana?

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced the Mahila Samman Bachat Patra Yojana in the 2023–24 budget. Any Indian woman or girl can create an account at a post office under this scheme, and she will get a fixed interest rate of 7.5% annually on deposits of upto Rs. 2 Lakhs.

This scheme is launched for two years, and offers a 7.5% compound interest rate that is fixed, with an investment limit from Rs. 1000/- up to Rs. 2 Lakhs. This scheme will remain in effect until March 31, 2025.

Benefits and Characteristics of Mahila Samman Bachat Patra Yojana

  1. Women will earn huge amount as interest by investing a small amount.
  2. The principal amount and interest will be received when the two-year period is over. This scheme has a higher interest rate than other schemes i.e. 7.5%.
  3. To open an account for a minor girl a guardian will be required.
  4. After 1 year, if applicant wants than only a maximum of 40% of the deposit amount can be withdrawn.
  5. For two years, any woman can invest up to Rs. 2 Lakhs either all at once or in installments.

  2. The woman’s family’s maximum income must be Rs. 7 Lakhs.

In April 2024, information has been issued for Mahila Samman Bachat Patra Yojana and it is available in 1.59 Lakhs post offices with immediate effect.

To apply for this scheme, follow the information given below:-

  1. To get any scheme related information or for opening your account, you need to go to your nearest post office.
  2. You will get the form of Mahila Samman Bachat Patra Yojana from there.
  3. Fill the form and attach the documents asked in the form and submit it back.
  4. After this, you can deposit whatever amount you want (minimum Rs. 1000/- to maximum Rs. 2 Lakhs), You can deposit money through cheque or cash.
  5. You will get a receipt of your investment after depositing the money.
